- CAMEL-style 12-quarter financial analysis, Abound CU NCUA call report data through Q4 2025 (recalculated March 17, 2026). Member count by quarter (raw NCUA Account 083): Q1 2024 = 136,760; Q2 2024 = 114,498; Q3 2024 = 116,581; Q4 2024 = 116,581; Q1 2025 = 117,790; Q2 2025 = 120,066; Q4 2025 = 117,743. The single-quarter step-down between Q1 and Q2 2024 is the source of the negative year-over-year readings that followed. Updated July 9, 2026 from the Q1 2026 NCUA Financial Performance Report (charter 7000, cycle March 2026): members 115,025 (with Q3 2025 = 122,259); total assets $2.716B; total loans $1.953B; total shares $2.243B; net worth $428.8M (15.79%); Q1 2026 net income $5.6M (0.84% annualized ROA); net charge-offs 0.68% annualized. Jake Darabos (CFO) confirmed July 10, 2026 that the September 2025 to March 2026 membership decline is cleanup of inactive accounts ahead of the core conversion, not member attrition.

(2) A WARN Act filing followed in February 2026 covering approximately 1,500 workers, with some layoffs delayed to March 31. (3) Ford committed $2B and 2,100 jobs to convert the Glendale site to battery energy storage, confirmed by the Beshear/Ford agreement on April 30, 2026, scaling to approximately 20 GWh annually by late 2027.
- Ray Springsteen, conversation with Brent, May 5, 2026. Source for the mortgage market position in central Kentucky, the June 1 lending process improvement, the merger-or-bank-acquisition framing, the IRA / indirect-member transition-rate findings, the age-product-usage correlation, and the "Day Two items" framing.
- Multi-provider relationship research synthesis, refreshed July 13, 2026. Filene Research Institute, Consumer Voices (2023 qualitative interviews: most participants named a day-to-day primary institution while all used multiple providers for different financial jobs); CFPB National Age-Friendly Banking Survey technical report (defines primary bank narrowly as the account used for most day-to-day banking transactions); Cornerstone Advisors, The Reacquisition Imperative (35% held multiple checking accounts in its 3,004-person 2020 survey); Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta 2024 payment study (74% nonbank payment-account adoption); and Pinwheel Consumer Banking Trends 2026 (89% named a primary provider in a 500-person survey, usually defined through direct deposit and bill pay). Together, the sources support primary as a transaction-hub label, not a single measure of the entire financial relationship.
- Chime Q1 2026 financial results (May 6, 2026): first profitable quarter, revenue $647M (+25% year over year), 10.2M active members. Cash App phased stablecoin rollout began May 27, 2026. EY Global AI Sentiment Survey (April 2026): 49% of global consumers used AI to guide savings or investment decisions in the prior six months, 77% of Gen Z; only 18% would trust AI to act on recommendations independently. (The Wells Fargo 2026 Money Study, cite 10, reports a lower 19% U.S. figure from a narrower question and November-December 2025 fieldwork; the two are different measures, not a contradiction.)
- CFPB advisory opinion (Federal Register, December 23, 2025): employer-partnered earned wage access products are not credit under TILA/Regulation Z. House Financial Services Committee advanced the first federal EWA framework bill on July 1, 2026 (31-23).
Methodology. Internal data sources: the Q1 2026 dashboard and a Google Sheet metrics tracker, plus a 12-quarter CAMEL-style analysis of Abound's NCUA call reports. Three independent deep-research runs (April 30, 2026) addressed a structured prompt covering competitor mapping, competitive forces, regulatory context, and shock events; cross-referencing the runs surfaced points of agreement and disagreement. Public sources and internal trackers verify figures where available. Citations identify claims drawn from conversations with leadership; confirm each before external use. Forward-looking statements about BlueOval, Fort Knox, and regulatory direction reflect announced plans, not accomplished facts. The brief was refreshed July 9, 2026 with June 2026 internal data (post-conversion account-opening baseline, June lending and marketing) and a July 2026 re-check of the external sources above.
